Not every ceremony outfit is meant to be kept. For a wedding, a henna night or an engagement party, Smaqi rents out part of its handsewn collection, to be tried on in our Fes boutique. You wear a workshop piece for the occasion without buying it.
We rent the caftan, the takchita, the jabador and the haik — the garments worn for one particular occasion, often only once. They are the same pieces as in our collections: sewn in Fes, hand-embroidered, in the same fabrics. The jellaba is not rented: it is an everyday garment worn through a whole season, and buying it makes more sense. See our Jellaba Fes for that.
Rental happens in the boutique, in Fes. You come and try the piece on, we adjust whatever needs adjusting, and you take it with you. We do not rent by post: a ceremony outfit has to be seen and fitted, and a last-minute alteration is often needed. Terms — length, amount, guarantee — are set case by case depending on the piece and the date: write to us on WhatsApp at +212 611 937 371 with the kind of outfit and the day of the event, and we will come back to you with a proposal.
Both make sense, and it mostly comes down to time and use. Renting works when the event is close, when the outfit will only be worn once, or when you want a heavily worked piece without buying it. Made to measure is the answer as soon as the piece has to last: a caftan or a takchita cut to your measurements can be worn for years, altered, and handed down. Allow six to eight weeks of sewing depending on the embroidery. If you are unsure, come to the shop and we will show you both.
