Djellaba from Fes — Moroccan elegance every day

The djellaba — also written jellaba — is the everyday garment of Moroccan women: covering, comfortable and always elegant. Recognisable by its qob hood and the discreet embroidery on sleeves and neckline, it changes with the seasons and the occasion. Our djellabas are made in Fes.

Summer djellaba, winter djellaba

In summer the djellaba is made in light cotton, linen or voile, in pale colours that reflect the heat. In winter it is made in wool or heavy fabric, lined, with a more structured hood. The cut stays the same — straight, generous, ankle length — but the material changes the comfort entirely. We offer both, along with mid-season models.

The hood and the embroidery

The qob, the djellaba's pointed hood, is its signature. It is set by hand and often outlined with braid or a matching sfifa. Embroidery runs along the neckline, the front opening and the cuffs; in Fes it favours two-tone geometric motifs and matte silk thread. It is quieter work than a caftan's, but no less demanding.

Djellaba, caftan or takchita: which to choose?

The djellaba is the everyday garment, worn over an outfit and suited to going out or to work. The caftan is a reception dress, more formal. The takchita, in two pieces, is reserved for the grandest ceremonies. Many of our customers own all three: a djellaba for daily life, a caftan for invitations, a takchita for weddings.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a jellaba and a djellaba?

None: they are two transcriptions of the same Arabic word. Both spellings are correct.

Which djellaba should I choose for summer?

Go for cotton, linen or voile in light shades. These fabrics let air circulate and stay comfortable in high heat.

Is a djellaba worn over other clothes?

Yes, that is its traditional use: the djellaba is worn over a light outfit, particularly when going out.

Do you make djellabas to measure?

Yes. Send us your measurements on WhatsApp at +212 611 937 371 and we will confirm the lead time and price.
